VCT China opens Champions 0–8 on home soil

TYLOO, EDG, Xi Lai and JD Gaming were all swept in opening Bo3s. Combined map record 0–8, average 5.25 rounds won per map.

The first rotation of VALORANT Champions Shanghai produced a result the timeline treated as a single object: the host region did not take a map. TYLOO, EDward Gaming, Xi Lai Gaming and JD Gaming each dropped a 0–2. Across eight maps China averaged 5.25 rounds won. That is not a cold start. That is a competitive gap showing up under championship lighting.

What the map tape actually says

The losses were not clustered on one banned style. G2 beat TYLOO 13–6 and 13–3. LOUD beat EDG 13–8 and 13–5. Karmine Corp beat Xi Lai 13–3 and 13–6. FUT closed JD Gaming with a 13–1 Ascent and a 13–10 Summit. Only JDG reached double digits on a map. Round differentials sat between −13 and −17 per series. When every opener lands in the same band, the story is system quality, not one night of aim variance.

Why X latched onto it

Champions 2024 still sits in the regional memory as a Chinese peak. Repeating a wipe at home, in the last franchise-era Champions, gave replies a simple frame: the circuit that won a world title two years ago cannot hold a pistol half. That frame travels. It is also incomplete. Opening GSL matches punish isolated prep. Elimination games will tell us whether CN can steal maps once the opponent pool is no longer exclusively Stage 2 or points winners from other regions.

Treat the 0–8 as a form signal, not a tombstone. Track first-blood rate, post-plant conversions and timeout usage in the lower bracket. If those three do not move, the region is not in the championship conversation past groups. If they do, the opening weekend becomes a calibration sample, not the season grade.
