This guide explains the main betting markets offered on Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) matches, how the MR12 round structure and map veto affect those markets, and what to check before registering with an esports bookmaker.

Main Valorant betting markets

Bookmakers that list VCT International Leagues (Americas, EMEA, Pacific, China), Masters and Champions usually split a match into series-level and map-level markets:

  • Match winner (moneyline): which team wins the series. Because Valorant matches cannot end in a draw, this is a two-way market.
  • Map handicap: in a best-of-three (Bo3), the favourite is priced at -1.5 maps (must win 2–0) and the underdog at +1.5 maps (wins the bet if they take at least one map). In a best-of-five (Bo5), books list -1.5/+1.5 and -2.5/+2.5.
  • Total maps played: Over/Under 2.5 maps in a Bo3 asks whether the series goes to a third decider map or ends 2–0.
  • Single-map winner and round handicap: priced separately for Map 1, Map 2 and Map 3. Round handicaps (for example -2.5 or +3.5 rounds) add or subtract rounds from a team’s final score on that map.
  • Total rounds on a map: Over/Under 20.5 or 21.5 rounds on a regulation 24-round map, including overtime rounds unless the bookmaker’s rules state otherwise.

How MR12 and Valorant economy affect round totals

Competitive Valorant uses an MR12 format: twelve rounds in the first half, a side swap at halftime, and twelve rounds in the second half. The first team to reach 13 rounds wins the map. If the score reaches 12–12, teams play two-round overtime sets (one attack round and one defence round each) until one team leads by two rounds.

Every half starts with a pistol round in which players begin with 800 credits. Winning the pistol round gives a credit advantage for Round 2, though the losing side still receives a loss bonus (1,900 credits after one loss, 2,400 after two consecutive losses, and 2,900 after three or more) plus 300 credits per player if they planted the Spike on attack.

Because the maximum regulation score without overtime is 13–11 (24 rounds), a high round total line such as Over 21.5 rounds requires the losing team to reach at least 9 rounds (13–9 is 22 rounds). A lopsided map that finishes 13–5 or 13–6 totals 18 or 19 rounds and stays under.

Map veto order in VCT

In a standard VCT Bo3 from a seven-map pool, each team bans one map, each team picks one map (with the opponent choosing the starting side), each team bans a second map, and the remaining seventh map becomes the decider. That means:

  • Map 1 and Map 2 are chosen by the two teams respectively, so a team that is much stronger on its home map pick than on the rest of the pool often pushes series to Over 2.5 maps rather than sweeping 2–0.
  • In a Bo5 (typically lower-bracket finals and grand finals), the higher seed coming from the upper bracket normally receives two map bans before the five maps are selected, leaving no unplayed decider after the two bans.

What to check before choosing a Valorant bookmaker

EsportsSignal does not run deposit or withdrawal tests on bookmakers. Before you open an account, verify the following directly on the operator’s site:

  • Licence and jurisdiction: check the regulator named in the footer and confirm the operator is allowed to accept players in your country or state.
  • Overtime and walkover rules: read the esports settlement rules to see whether map round totals include overtime rounds and whether a mid-match forfeit voids or settles map bets.
  • Identity verification and withdrawal terms: review the required KYC documents, minimum withdrawal amounts, and any turnover conditions attached to welcome bonuses before opting in.

See our responsible play page for deposit-limit and self-exclusion tools, and how we work for how EsportsSignal produces guides and match coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many rounds are in a pro Valorant map?

A regulation map has up to 24 rounds (two halves of 12 rounds). The first team to 13 rounds wins; at 12–12 the map goes to win-by-two overtime.

What does -1.5 maps mean in Valorant betting?

In a best-of-three series, a -1.5 map handicap wins only if that team wins the match 2–0. A +1.5 map handicap wins if that team wins at least one map (2–0, 2–1 or 1–2).

Do overtime rounds count toward Over/Under total rounds?

At most bookmakers, overtime rounds count toward map round totals and round handicaps, so a 14–12 overtime map settles at 26 rounds. Always check the operator’s esports house rules before placing a total-rounds bet.
