Updated 18 October 2026. No Swiss Stage draw had taken place, and the Swiss Stage does not start until 23 October. We have rewritten the article using the official schedule and verified sources, and we apologise to readers for the error.

In a Swiss system, teams are paired with opponents who have the same win-loss record after each round. According to Aju Press, the first eight teams to reach three wins advance to the quarter-finals, and any team that records three losses is eliminated. That means each team plays between three and five rounds, and no team can be knocked out by a single bad day.
Riot Games publishes the pairings for each round as the stage progresses. At the time of this update, the opening-round pairings for 23 October had not yet been confirmed, because the final Swiss Stage place was still being decided in the Play-In.
The Play-In: one place left
The Play-In started on 15 October at the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles with four teams: Karmine Corp from Europe, Cloud9 KIA from North America, FURIA from Brazil and MVK Esports from Vietnam. It is a double-elimination bracket of best-of-five series, and only the winner moves on.
Karmine Corp beat Cloud9 3-2 and then swept MVK 3-0 to reach the final on 18 October. FURIA eliminated Cloud9 3-1 and met MVK in the lower-bracket final on 17 October. Before that match, Games of Legends recorded the following game win rates for the Play-In teams:
| Team | Region | Games | Wins | Game win rate (gol.gg) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Karmine Corp | Europe | 8 | 6 | 75% |
| MVK Esports | Vietnam | 6 | 3 | 50% |
| FURIA | Brazil | 7 | 3 | 42.9% |
| Cloud9 KIA | North America | 9 | 3 | 33.3% (eliminated) |
Who is already in
The four LCK teams, Gen.G, Hanwha Life Esports, T1 and Dplus KIA, skip the Play-In and enter the Swiss Stage directly. Aju Press reports that 19 teams from six regions take part in the tournament overall.
- T1 are chasing a fourth consecutive world title, which no team has ever achieved. They won in 2023, 2024 and 2025, taking the organisation’s total to six.
- Gen.G are the LCK’s top seed after beating Hanwha Life Esports 3-1 in the LCK final. Chovy is still chasing his first world title.
- Hanwha Life Esports won the Mid-Season Invitational with a 3-2 final against Bilibili Gaming and now have Gumayusi, who moved from T1.
- Dplus KIA, the fourth seed, won the Esports World Cup in Paris in July, beating BLG and Gen.G before a 3-0 final against Karmine Corp.
Among the international contenders, Aju Press names Bilibili Gaming, led by Viper, and G2 Esports, led by Caps, as the main challengers. The LCK has won every World Championship since 2022.
After the Swiss Stage
The quarter-finals and semi-finals will also be played in Allen. The final is at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on 14 November at 14:00 local time.

What to watch
The Play-In final on 18 October decides the sixteenth team. Karmine Corp, who lost the Esports World Cup final to Dplus KIA in July, are one series away from a possible rematch with the Korean side. Once the pairings are announced, EsportsSignal will publish the opening-round schedule with confirmed matchups.
