Team Liquid have signed Stanislav “Malr1ne” Potorak as their midlaner for the 2026-27 Dota 2 season, filling the slot left by Michał “Nisha” Jankowski. The organisation announced the move on 15 October with a highlight video and a short message: “The final piece to the puzzle.”
The signing pairs one of the most accomplished midlaners of the current era with an organisation that has won The International twice. Malr1ne won TI 2025 with Team Falcons; Liquid won the Aegis in 2017 and again at TI 2024, when Nisha was part of the line-up.
Why Malr1ne was available
Malr1ne, 22, became a free agent when Team Falcons disbanded after The International 2026. Dot Esports reports that he took a short break after TI, including time away around his wedding. That break became a talking point: at BLAST Slam VIII, his former long-time teammate Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf, now the offlaner of Team Yandex, joked in an interview that Malr1ne was a “fraud” for taking a month and a half off to get married.
Nisha, for his part, stepped away from competitive Dota 2, leaving Liquid in need of a long-term midlaner.
Liquid’s 2026-27 roster
| Role | Player | Real name |
|---|---|---|
| Carry | miCKe | Michael Vu |
| Mid | Malr1ne | Stanislav Potorak |
| Offlane | Wisper | Adrián Dobles |
| Soft support | Boxi | Samuel Svahn |
| Hard support / captain | tOfu | Erik Engel |
The core of miCKe, Boxi and tOfu has played together for several seasons, and Wisper gives the team an aggressive offlaner. Malr1ne brings a famously wide hero pool. Dot Esports lists Timbersaw, Sand King, Pangolier, Puck and Primal Beast among his signature picks, along with the occasional Huskar.
Malr1ne by the numbers
Public match data supports his reputation. In the 12 months to 17 October 2026, OpenDota records 255 league matches for Malr1ne, with 160 wins, a 62.7% win rate. He averaged 7.5 kills, 3.9 deaths and 11.8 assists per game and 606 gold per minute. His most-played heroes in that period:
| Hero | Games | Wins | Win rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pangolier | 36 | 23 | 63.9% |
| Sand King | 28 | 18 | 64.3% |
| Primal Beast | 24 | 16 | 66.7% |
| Puck | 12 | 6 | 50.0% |
| Huskar | 12 | 10 | 83.3% |
| Monkey King | 12 | 9 | 75.0% |
OpenDota counts every match played in a ticketed league, so the sample includes qualifiers and smaller events as well as tier-one tournaments. Figures were retrieved on 17 October 2026.
How both sides fared at TI 2026
Neither Falcons nor Liquid had the TI they wanted this year. Falcons finished 7th-8th in Shanghai after losing 1-2 to Nigma Galaxy in the upper bracket and then 1-2 to Liquid in the first round of the lower bracket. Liquid went one step further and finished 5th-6th: they lost 0-2 to Team Yandex in the upper bracket and were eventually knocked out by Team Spirit, who went on to win the tournament with a 3-2 final against TEAM VISION.
| Team | TI 2026 result (per Dot Esports) | Eliminated by |
|---|---|---|
| Team Liquid | 5th-6th | Team Spirit |
| Team Falcons | 7th-8th | Team Liquid |
After TI, Liquid played BLAST Slam VIII with veteran Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng as a stand-in and finished 9th-12th. The Malr1ne signing gives them a permanent solution in the middle lane.
The Nisha era
Replacing Nisha is not a small task. Dot Esports describes him as a highly consistent midlaner who was central to the playstyle that won Liquid the Aegis of Champions at The International 2024. Malr1ne arrives with a different reputation, as a flexible player with a very wide hero pool who has also proven himself on the biggest stage after helping Falcons win TI 2025. The question for Liquid is how quickly a team built around one style of midlaner can adapt to another.
Part of a busy transfer window
Liquid’s move is one of the biggest in an active post-TI market. dota2news.com’s tracker counts more than 100 roster moves since The International ended on 23 August, the majority involving the top teams it follows. With Falcons gone, several of their players have joined new projects, and the Malr1ne signing closes one of the most-watched free-agent stories.
What comes next
The new line-up is expected to debut at PARI Universe, FISSURE’s ten-team, $250,000 event that starts on 22 October. The full field is 1w Team, Astra Invicta, BetBoom Team, GamerLegion, LEGION, OG, PARIVISION, Team Liquid, Team Spirit and Team Yandex. Teams play a round robin in two groups of five, and the top four from each group advance to a double-elimination playoff that ends on 1 November. With TI champions Team Spirit and BLAST Slam VIII winners Team Yandex in the field, Liquid will be tested immediately. A possible meeting with Yandex would also put Malr1ne directly against ATF.
How Liquid adapt their drafting to Malr1ne’s hero pool will be one of the main things to watch in the group stage. EsportsSignal will report on the team’s first results from PARI Universe.
