Dota 2 hub: TI, regional circuits, draft and patch-freeze checks

How the competitive year is structured

Dota 2’s year still orbits The International (TI), with regional leagues, invitationals, and qualifier chains feeding toward that peak. The exact circuit name on a given year (whether a publisher-run tour, a third-party league, or a qualifier series) is printed on the organizer page — not on a generic “DPC” memory from a previous era. If a preview still says DPC without a current Valve or organizer URL, treat the label as stale until you replace it.

A Dota match is a draft plus a game clock. The series length (Bo1, Bo2, Bo3, Bo5) is independent of how long a single game runs. A 70-minute game can still be one map in a Bo3. Draft (picks, bans, and the current facet/innate rules) is part of the match, not pre-show color. Captains’ Mode is the default for most serious events; confirm if an amateur cup is using a different mode.

Regions (WEU, EEU, China, SEA, NA, SA, and whatever the current year lists) are not equally scheduled. A “same-day” TI qualifier in two regions can start many hours apart. Always keep the zone on the reminder.

What to verify on an official match page

Use the event’s Liquipedia-linked official page, Valve’s Dota 2 news when it names the event, or the tournament site — in that order of conflict. Verify:

  • Series length. Group Bo2 with a possible draw is a different product from a playoff Bo3. A 1–1 Bo2 is not a failure to finish; it may be the designed result.
  • Patch and freeze. TI and major invitationals often freeze a gameplay patch. Your pubs may already be on a newer numbered patch. If the match page or event FAQ names a freeze, that is the competitive client.
  • Region and broadcast delay. Official streams may sit behind a delay; tracker sites may not. Pick one if you care about spoilers.
  • Draft rules. Facets, innates, and ban counts have changed across patches. The captain’s screen on the official VOD is the record, not a remembered 2018 draft template.

Roshan timers, buyback, and glyph are in-game systems. They are not series rules. Do not write a “they threw by buying back” story unless the VOD shows the gold and the fight. This hub does not invent net-worth graphs.

Stand-ins and coach-on-stage rules are event-specific. A player with a visa delay can be replaced for one series. Confirm the five that loaded into the draft, not the five on the team’s homepage.

Following TI versus following the regional week

TI weeks are a bracket plus a patch story. Regional weeks are a standings table plus travel. If you only watch TI, you will miss how a team’s draft pool was built in June. If you only watch regionals, you will overfit to a patch that TI may freeze or skip. Keep a short note: current patch number, freeze yes/no, and the next official event that uses it.

Prize pools for TI have historically included a Battle Pass or similar community component. This desk does not paste a USD figure from a social infographic. If you need a number, open Valve’s post or the event’s prize page and quote the date you checked.

A viewing sheet that survives a 70-minute game

Write four lines before draft: series length, patch or freeze, region, and the five names that loaded. After draft, add the two captains’ first-phase bans. That sheet still works if game one goes past the hour. Do not keep a “they always first-pick this hero” note unless you also keep the patch number. When a tracker and the official stream disagree on net worth, the stream is what the players see; the tracker can lag. Pause the recap until you can point at one of those two, not at a chat rumor.

Qualifier mornings in one region overlap finals in another. If you follow both WEU and China, keep two calendar events with explicit zones rather than one “Dota block.” A missed zone is how a TI group game becomes a VOD you spoiled on a tracker. This is schedule hygiene, not a prediction.

This hub does not sell a VPN. Match intel stays on /matches/. If you still want one cashier after the reading guide, open the GG.BET partner check. No operator hop on this page.

Fiat rails named on the partner check, not here: Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller and SEPA. This desk did not deposit on 13 September 2026. Time-to-open a finished Dota 2 match record should stay under 10 minutes. Empty drafts stay empty.

Cons / limitations

  • Patch freeze vs pub client. The hero you spammed this week may be disabled or altered on the tournament client. Previews that ignore the freeze mis-teach the draft.
  • Bo2 draws confuse standings. A 1–1 is a designed group result in many Dota leagues. Treating it as “they could not close” is a format error.
  • Region labels hide travel. A “European” team may be playing on a Chinese LAN with a different practice environment. The match page’s venue beats the team’s home city.

Desk metrics (13 September 2026)

  • Documents opened: event format page, patch notes or freeze FAQ, and the match draft/series listing — 3 in 13 min.
  • Time to confirm Bo2 vs Bo3 vs Bo5: 3 min.
  • USD prize pool: omitted unless Valve or the organizer page states it on the date of the desk pass.
  • Replay files parsed: 0. Draft screens are a VOD check, not a parsed replay lab.
  • Operator hops on this hub: 0.

FAQ

Is a 1–1 in groups a bug? Often it is a Bo2. Read the format box before calling it unfinished.

Where do I see the patch freeze? Event FAQ or the official Dota news post for that tournament. If neither names a freeze, do not invent one.

Is this a betting sheet? No. It is a reading guide for official pages.
